3 PRACTICAL TIPS TO MAKE YOUR BLOG BETTER

I want to share with you 3 practical tips you can implement today FOR FREE to make your blog look more professional.

If you’re trying to generate an income via your blog and/or attract brands to send you products to review, then looking more professional is something you should think about. Let’s say you reach out to a brand to pitch a collaboration idea, they’re going to look at your brand/blog to see if you’re someone worth working with.

Numbers are a huge deal in blogging, which we will cover another day, but if you’re not quite there yet in terms of numbers, here’s 3 things you should be doing to improve your chances of winning those brand collaborations…

ONE | CREATE YOUR OWN EMAIL ADDRESS VIA YOUR BLOG DOMAIN

If you’re self hosted then ditch the gmail.com email address and get your own to match your domain name. When you’re advertising your contact details and emailing potential clients, it looks so much better coming from EG: david@dadvworld.com than it does david@gmail.com.

Obviously by ditching the gmail.com I don’t mean delete it, you might already have established that address and receive regular emails from it. What you need to do is auto-forward all of the received emails from your gmail.com account to your new email account.

When I’m emailing people I always think it shows you’ve made that extra effort to really own what you’re doing if your email comes from a more professional looking name@yourblog.com and it’s another place to enter your blog name and generally keep everything in line with your own brand.

TWO | CALIBRATE YOUR ONLINE BRANDING

Your blog is your brand and your social media platforms should align with your brand. If your blog name is David and Donetta, then you want to be found easily across platforms using the same name. Whether you’re using only 1 or 4 other platforms to create content around your blog they should all align with the same name. You want your Facebook Page to be David and Donetta, your Twitter handle to be @davidanddonetta and all other platforms. If you’re promoting your blog content on a Twitter account that’s named something different it can make things confusing.

You should also think about using the same graphic branding too. Use your blog banner as your Facebook Page cover and your Twitter banner. Also if you have a logo then have that as your profile photo across all platforms to make your brand easily identifiable no matter where people are looking.

THREE | MAKE USE OF FREE APPS AND MATERIALS THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR CONTENT

All of this doesn’t mean anything if ultimately your content is rubbish. There are so many FREE apps available there’s really no excuse for not trying to improve your content. I’m going to talk more in a future post about all the FREE materials I use but here’s a couple that you can start using TODAY to improve your blog and its content.

CANVA – You can create blog banners, YouTube thumbnails, Facebook ads, featured blog images, Pinterest content and an absolute boatload of other things using CANVA. Oh and just to reiterate, IT’S FREE! There are paid elements but I’ve only ever used the free version and it’s more than enough to help you create better content.

SNAPSEED – If photography isn’t your strong suit, or even if it is, Snapseed can and will improve your photo’s. In my opinion and many others it’s simply the BEST free photo editing app available. With so many settings and filters to choose from you can massively improve your photography using Snapseed.
