The video game market has grown to an impressive size over the last 50 years or so. With this industry being so new, along with loads of technology hitting the scene each year, a lot has changed since the earliest days of arcade gaming. Nowadays, rather than going out to play their games, most people will enjoy them from the comfort of their own home. This presents a challenge of parents, though. When it comes to choosing the console your family uses, there will be a lot at stake, and making the right decision will prove to be very important. To help you out with this, this post will be exploring the top three players, giving you an idea of which console might be best for you.

The Xbox One

For a lot of new parents, Xbox gaming will take them right back to their childhoods. With the predecessor to this machine being the Xbox 360, it certainly has a very strong heritage, but this isn’t always enough for the player. Unfortunately, Microsoft has moved far away from family-friendly titles with this generation, with very few games for this console being designed to be good for group gatherings. Instead, the games which you will find are often violent and gory. A lot of people regard the Xbox One as more of a media player than a games console, thanks to the extensive video and music tools it has on offer.

The Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has long been at the top of the family gaming market, having struck huge success with their Wii console, and having numerous popular machines going even further into the past. The Switch isn’t as powerful as its competitors, but come in at a much lower price, and even offers a small degree of portability, thanks to the built-in battery and screen. There aren’t many games for this machine at the moment, but a lot of them are perfect for parties and other family settings. Hardcore gamers can even be satisfied, with titles like Breath of the Wild offering a deep and immersive experience.

The PlayStation 4

Finally, as the last console to think about, it’s time to consider the PlayStation 4. Sony has been very smart with their licensing for this machine, with far more developers having access to their dev kits than those looking to make games for other consoles. This has opened the doors to loads of new titles, including a huge range of options which are great for kids. You can find loads of PS4 console deals around the web, making this option nice and affordable. While it might not have quite the same media features as the Xbox, it is far better in this area than the Switch, giving it a strong position when compared to the two.

With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to take on the challenge of choosing a games console for your family. A lot of people struggle with this sort of work, finding it hard to know which option will be best for their flock, especially as products become more and more similar.
