Creating The Perfect Family Room Within Your Home

There’s one room within your home that you want to feel cosy and homely and that’s the family room. Nothing beats getting the whole family together in the family room to watch a Disney classic, play a good board game or even just have some quality time together, and it’s times like these that your little ones will cherish for a lifetime. Family time is really important and even if you only manage to squeeze an hour or so into each day, it’s always more than worth it. You want this space to feel welcoming, warm and family-friendly and these useful tips are going ensure you achieve this.

Convert the Loft Space

Having enough space in your house to add a family room may be difficult for some, however, if you think outside the box then there are actually lots of ways in which you can incorporate this style of room into your home without having to remove any existing room purposes. For example, if you have a perfectly spacious loft area, then this is the perfect spot for a family room. Not only is it a room that isn’t currently being used to it’s full potential, but it’s a space that has the ability to be the cosiest in the house. With a secure pair of loft ladders and cosy furniture pieces, you can really kit out your loft to become the perfect space for that quality family time. For a range of durable, hard-wearing and family-friendly ladders and loft accessories, visit Ladderstore’s site to find out more.

A Variety of Seating

If your little ones are like mine, then you’ll be aware of the ‘fidgety bottom’ phase. It doesn’t matter how many comfortable seats you have in one area, you can guarantee the little ones are going to be playing musical chairs and hopping from sofa to sofa throughout the night. Having plenty of seating options within your family room will help to make sure everyone is comfortable, relaxed and has enough space. Whilst you want to be close to your family, it’s nice to plenty of space available. This variety of seating will also ensure that the room looks and feels inviting, as it’s well set-up for a few hours of cosy family time. Try to include a range of different seating styles, such as sofas, armchairs, bean bags and even chunky cushions on the floor, as they’re often the perfect item to snuggle up onto when you’re watching a good film. You can find some really quirky bean bag styles here, giving your family room a really unique touch.

Give the Room Personality

The family room is a space that you’re dedicating to spending quality family time in, so you want it to be as personal and homely as possible. There are some really cool décor ideas on Pinterest for family rooms and you can make it a space that every member of your family feels relaxed and comfortable in. Introducing lots of family photographs to the room is perfect for creating that family feel, showing memories that you have all made together to highlight amazing moments and experiences that you all loved. You’ll also find that this kind of decorative touch can be really inexpensive and easy to do too, which is an added bonus.

Make it as Fun as Possible

One of the main ideas for a family room is that you can all spend quality time together in one space, doing the things that make you all happy. Whether that means settling down to watch Paw Patrol, or you find yourself getting roped into a game of Pie Face, you need to make sure that the family room is filled with family-friendly games, films and activities to make your time in there enjoyable. Make sure you have a space for relaxing and nap times and a space for games and fun. This will help to balance the room out and ensure it can be used for a whole host of different things.

JURASSIC KINGDOM IS SET TO ROAR INTO SHEFFIELD THIS MAY

  • Norfolk Heritage Park is set to be transformed into a Jurassic Kingdom this May, when the interactive, animatronic dinosaur exhibition comes to the city for two weeks
  • The exhibition, which will see 30 life-size dinosaurs on show, will run from Saturday 26 May – Sunday 10 June*
  • Tickets go on sale today (Wednesday 4 April) at www.jurassickingdom.uk

SHEFFIELD’S NORFOLK HERITAGE PARK is set to be taken over by prehistoric predators next month, when the UK’s only outdoor ‘dino-tour’, Jurassic Kingdom, roars into the city.

More than 30 lifelike animatronic dinosaurs – including an 18m high, roaring T-Rex and a 16m long Diplodocus – will be on show, snarling their jaws and swaying their tails for audiences of all ages at the family-friendly event, which runs from Saturday 26 May to Sunday 10 June.

Naz Kabir, event director at Weli Creative – the organisation behind Jurassic Kingdom, said: “We can’t wait to bring Jurassic Kingdom to Sheffield for the first time this May.

“The awe-inspiring dinosaurs give kids and adults alike the chance to experience the sheer size and scale of these fascinating creatures close-up, embarking on a prehistoric adventure that’s both exciting and educational.”

Visitors will encounter the dinosaurs as they explore the Jurassic Kingdom through Norfolk Heritage Park, discovering epic, life-sized dinosaur replicas from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods as they go, from T-Rex and Triceratops to flying reptiles like Pterosaurs.

Younger dinosaur hunters will also be able to try their hand at digging for bones in an excavation area before learning about how dinosaurs lived, in the Jurassic Kingdom educational marquee.

Naz added: “As well as experiencing the thrill of being in the midst of these impressive and incredibly lifelike creatures, visitors can also learn about how dinosaurs lived, millions of years ago.

“It’s a unique chance for families and school visitors to enjoy an entertaining and educational day out, and get some truly unforgettable photos along the way, too. Tickets are now on sale from our website – so don’t miss out!”

Richard Eyre, Head of City Centre Management, Markets and Major Events said: “It is quite fitting that one of our oldest parks will be hosting this wonderful event. The park was chosen by the organisers because they saw the layout and the greenery and decided it looked like the natural habitat of dinosaurs. I am sure everyone who comes to this exhibition will agree.

“We expect this unique event will be very popular and draw visitors to the area from near and far. It will be quite surreal to see life size dinosaurs in Norfolk Heritage Park this summer!”

A variety of food and drink will be available on site, as well as the opportunity for visitors to take home a memento of the day from the Official Merchandise unit.

Jurassic Kingdom opens to the public on Saturday 26 May and is open daily from 10am – 6pm until Sunday 10 June, apart from 4, 5 and 6 June. Last entry is at 5pm.

Tickets are available from www.jurassickingdom.uk. Prices start from £11.50 for adults, £10.50 concessions, £9.50 for children, and £38 for a family ticket.

Standard booking fees apply.

A Day At Doncaster Races | Spring Family Fun Day

I’m sure it was only last week Corben and I were chilling on the Sofa watching the horse racing and losing our money to the bookies.

It was actually a few years ago before Corben could talk and help form a bookie bashing plan. When he was a baby there was something about the green grass and the multicoloured jockey outfits that mesmerised him. There were many a Saturday when we’d have the races on TV, he’d love the horses running around and I’d cry as another horse I’d backed came last!

Fast forward to the present day and Corben is a walking, talking rubbish at betting kid just like his old man! This past weekend we were invited to the Spring Family Fun Day at Doncaster Racecourse for a full day of racing and fun! Between us we didn’t back a single winner all day! However we did have an amazing family fun day.

There were indoor activities such as crafts, colouring and a disco. Outside there was a funfair with loads of rides and games like huck-a-duck and lucky dips. There was also a little football and a bouncy castle on top of access to the pre-race parade ring where you could get a close look at the horses racing that day.

There was so much to do for the kids and not only that, there was a full racecard for the adults to enjoy too. I love the races, so to mix it with kids activities was a massive win win for me.

WE ALSO FILMED OUR DAY!

After having a go on all the rides and games we had a quick bite to eat before the races began. We played big-spenders with the bookies and put our £2 on before taking our places next to the finish line to watch our horse glide home as the winner. OK that last bit didn’t happen but Corben loved it, shouting and cheering on our chosen horse and watching them run past only metres away at such pace!

We made sure we sampled as many activities as we could, a bit of colouring inside and a boogie to the music just to break up the waiting between races. We then moved to different locations to get different views of the horses running. Up in the stand Corben had a great view and again enjoyed shouting on his horse. His horse happened to be whichever one won, despite not matching the number he chose before the race… Glory supporter! HA!

All in all as a family we had a blast. Plenty to go at all day for all of us. We didn’t win any money but we won when it comes to a great family day out.

Doncaster Racecourse will be having more Family Fun Days I’m sure and we will be attending! In fact, Corben enjoyed it so much we may be back sooner to sample another day at the races.

Things To Do Over The Spring/Easter Holidays | with Twinkl

Whether you’re Home Educating or just looking for fun activities to do over the Spring/Easter holidays, Twinkl has you covered.

As many of you know we home educate Corben thus meaning we’re always on the look out for educational and fun material to use. Twinkl is our go to place and it always ticks the box.

Next up is the Spring/Easter Holidays and it’s always fun to check out what activities Twinkl have in mind.

The most popular downloads on Twinkl for Easter right now are the Easter Themed Basket and Hat template activity sheets. Make your own Easter basket and hats, something I imagine loads of people doing during the holidays.

You can download them HERE if you have a Twinkl account.

I’ll tell you something else that caught my eye and made it into my downloads, Spring Hunt Checklist. We’ve been out and about a lot more lately discovering new places to explore and having this Spring Hunt Checklist would definitely add to the experience. Last time we went to a local wood Corben was intrigued by all the different types of leaves we found, checking similar things off and having to find them, he’d find really fun. He’d also be learning without even knowing! 🙂

There’s an entire section built around Spring with videos and activities spanning all ages, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy and learn.

Check out the Twinkl Spring Section | Twinkl Spring Section

Disney On Ice | Worlds Of Enchantment 2018

They’ve only gone and pulled it out of the bag again haven’t they. Remember last time Disney On Ice – A Passport To Adventure 2017 it was EPIC, well its happened again!

I wasn’t long ago we were telling you how awesome Disney On Ice was in 2017, then we told you we were going back again More Disney On Ice For Us this March. Would this second show at The First Direct Arena, Leeds live up to the first one?

YES! YES IT DID!

We were absolutely thrilled to be invited back to see the next Disney On Ice show, this time including Toy Story and Cars. As a little added extra we also got to meet Mickey Mouse to grab a photo and goody bag before the show. It’s tough to call who loved that bit more, Corben or Abi!

Disney On Ice DadvWorld

That’s one thing I do love about Disney. Kids in their teenage years can start becoming a little too cool for many of the things they loved about 5 minutes ago! Disney though seems to be the anomaly with this, it’s like even all the teenagers have agreed, ‘We’re all cool now, but Disney stays cool with us OK? OK agreed’. HA! Our girls are 12 and 14 and enjoyed the show more than Corben, 5. He’s yet to know every word to every song, but the girls are Disney veterans now so sang along throughout.

The last show was something I could easily sit through again and this one was no different. Does Disney ever get old? It doesn’t does it.

The featured story this time around was Toy Story. It took the largest proportion of the show and was incredible. All the main characters skating around taking you through the scenes of the film and the props were great. A giant desk to give the illusion that you were being taken into the world of being toy sized, it was great.

Disney On Ice DadvWorld

Lightening McQueen, Cars came out and real little cars were driving and spinning across the ice accompanied by flashing lights and sparks. A welcome addition from the last show, the only small gripe of the entire evening was that Cars didn’t last quite as long as I’d hoped. I guess when the only moan is that it wasn’t long enough, you’re not doing bad are you!

We dived into the world of Ariel before the grand finale of Frozen, my favourite bit 🙂

There’s something magical about that Frozen film isn’t there. I think it’s the songs. To close out an unbelievable show it seemed perfect too. Let it go, LET IT GOOOO!

In between performances our hosts, Mickey, Minnie and crew broke up the gaps brilliantly interacting with the kids in the crowd. Disney On Ice is a genuine FAMILY evening out. From Corben, 5 to the teenage girls, to us adults, we all thoroughly enjoyed the whole nights entertainment.

If you want to get a glimpse into our night at Disney On Ice you’re in luck, we made a video too!

Tag us in your Disney photos across social media, we’d love to see them 🙂

Top 3 Tips For Work At Home Parents

I work from home whilst also Home Educating Corben and playing taxi to our teenage girls. I’m often asked for tips on how I balance all of this and make it work.

Well here you go, my Top 3 Tips For Work At Home Parents.

PS. Tried and tested, by me.

TIP 1 | Utilise Bathtime

Corben takes some of his figures into the bath and gets lost in a magical world of Killer Crocs and Scuba Diving Batman. Whilst he splashes water to cover every inch of the bathroom, I sit on the toilet with the laptop trying to go through emails with my arm in a guarding position, you know like when someone was trying to copy your work at school and you wrapped your arm around your work book. I manage to get approx 1.5 emails read in-between the ‘Corben the water is splashing all over the side!’ and the ‘How did the dog get up here, Peppa you’re not getting in the bath!’

TIP 2 | Share All Of Your Office/Work Stationery & Gadgets

When working from home you build up your own equipment over time, things that enable you to do your job, that brings the money in, you know that pays for food and stuff. But, kids also need stationary and your gadgets are always better than theirs, because they’re for work, again to earn money. Kids will always need to borrow your pens, you should take a deep breath and happily hand over your favourite pen and quickly come to terms with the fact you’ll never see it again. Then get on with some work on the laptop where no pen is required. The alternative involves moaning whining child voices, explaining how, when, where and why they no longer have their own pen that you bought them so that they wouldn’t need to STEAL yours anymore. Bonus tips for the gadgets > If you need selfie sticks, tripods and SD cards etc, buy them, hide them and never use them because the moment you do they will be ‘borrowed’ and never returned!

TIP 3 | Think Carefully About Where To Set Up Your Home Office

You don’t want it to be upstairs out of the way where you could sit quietly, think clearly and focus better. That will dull your work ethic and not challenge you, its simply too easy. You want to install a work desk as close to the action as possible. You want to challenge yourself to read, process and respond to work related situations whilst the oven is on, Ryan’s Toy Reviews has been cast at full volume to the big tele, one kid is asking for a pen and the other is beating the third sibling with a lightsaber. That’s when you find out what you can offer to your clients and should definitely be noted down on paper for when you next update your CV, well, once you’ve found a pen.

There you have it, tried and tested by myself and guaranteed to challenge you mentally, physically and emotionally! I’d love to hear if any of these tips work for you and feel free to share your tips with me in the comments…

I’ve Started Looking At Holidays | #ad

If your stalking me over on Instagram you’ll know over the last week or so I’ve been looking around for a family holiday. We’ve not been on a proper family holiday for a couple of years now and I want one!

I asked my mates across Instagram to get involved, sending me links, advice and details for holidays to Centre Parcs and Disneyland Paris. They did, I looked at them and I quickly decided they would be some years away £££.

I clicked around online some more and then Clickstay were brought to my attention. Now Clickstay advertise luxury private pool villas, ski chalets, chic city apartments, countryside chateaus and everything in-between. They have over 48,000 properties in 80 countries!

I remember going to a villa in Alicante, Spain a few times when I was a kid. I loved it. I always thought it was cool having a villa, I’d pretend it was my actual house and we had a pool right outside too which made it even cooler. Bare in mind I was between 8-12, I’d pretend I was an English footballer that had signed for Real Madrid and moved over to Spain to live a life of luxury. I was pretty much living David Beckham’s life before he was!

My preference for a family holiday would be a villa, somewhere to call your own for the week or two. The hustle and bustle of a hotel would add to the family holiday drama I reckon, a nice villa to unload your things, a home from home would be my choice for sure.

https://www.clickstay.com/spain

I got thinking, how cool would it be to re-live my childhood holiday, a villa in Alicante but 20 years on with me as the Dad and my own little family. Corben wouldn’t be pretending to be a footballer I know that, he’d be looking for Batman films in Spanish instead!

I had a little click and a type on the Clickstay website and came across this beauty, 3 Bed Villa A/C with Private Pool & Garden, Marina Oasis, Alicante. This wasn’t the only one either, loads to choose from!

I’ll be honest, after looking at some holidays over the last week, I was beginning to wonder if we’d ever get away for a family holiday abroad, it can be so expensive especially when there’s 5 of us! Now I’m more than optimistic and love the idea of a villa abroad somewhere for us as a family to chill… and vlog! HA!

I’m predominantly a Dad Blogger, I’ve managed to carve out a few Fashion Blogger type posts but really I’m screaming inside to become a Travel Blogger! So many wonderful places to see, visit and experience.

About Clickstay…

Clickstay is a holiday home rental website with adverts for thousands of holiday properties in destinations worldwide. Whether you are looking for villas in Spain, cottages in France, houses in Florida, riads in Morocco or apartments in Italy, we have the lot! Each advert has a plethora of information about the property and the local area from the owners themselves and often include customer reviews to help you find your perfect holiday rental. Behind our many property adverts is a team dedicated to help you find your ideal holiday home.

Starting in 2003, they helped over 600,000 holiday makers and they have a 98% Feefo Service Rating!

I’ve spent a couple of hours recently looking through their site and the reviews and it’s got me really excited about a family holiday.

Are you making plans for a family holiday or couples get-away this year? Let me know in the comments…

Top Tips For Emailing Brands | Bloggers

Hi Bloggers, I’m Carl from DadtasticVoyage and I’m here to help you Blag Your Blog with my Top Tips For Emailing Brands!

Now that you’ve been blogging for a while (six to twelve months I’d say), you’ve spent your time focusing on building up your content, increasing your following and your writing skills are improving. You’ve had a couple of sponsored posts but there’s nothing else coming in. It’s time to start putting yourself out there. Social media is one of the best ways to get your blog noticed, with so many platforms. It’s true that social media and blogging go hand in hand but sometimes it’s not enough. Sometimes, no matter how good your most recent post is, it is easily lost in the thousands of other posts out there. Sometimes, you have to put yourself out there and start selling yourself to brands.

PR’s work incredibly hard to find bloggers that align perfectly with the brands and what better way is there to show you align with your favourite brand than to get in touch directly?! It may not always result in an instant campaign, but it will help you stand out among the huge sea of bloggers that PR’s need to get through to find their brand ambassadors! I have had some of my most successful collaborations using just a few simple rules, so here are some of my Top Tips For Emailing Brands.

Make It Personal

If you can, try to find the name of the PR contact at the brand you’re looking to email. Using specifics like names can really help grab peoples attention. One tried and tested phrase I include in all my emails is ‘How are you?’ or ‘Are you having a good day/week?’ Remember PR contacts are people too. Think of them as people rather a company.

Don’t Ask For Too Much in Your Initial Email

Try not to think of PR’s like Father Christmas. They’re not just going to hand out gifts! Rather than thinking about what they might be able to give you, think about getting to know them and how you might be able to work together. It’s always better to get on with the people that you work with and this goes for your relationship with PR companies too.

Finish Up With A Question

Ending an email with a question is a bit of a no-brainer! If you want people to reply, give them something specific to reply to. Try using ‘What are your thoughts?’

Always Write A Follow UP

If you don’t get a reply within a few days, don’t worry! If the PR person you’re trying to contact is anything like me you’ll mean to reply but don’t always have time, or they just miss your first email altogether. Sending a really brief follow up, just asking if they saw your initial email and would they like to chat is a polite way of prompting people to reply. Definitely something I would recommend getting into the habit of doing. I usually leave it a few days before thinking about doing this. Most inboxes tell you how many days ago you sent the email so don’t worry about forgetting.

Have you been getting in touch with PR’s? Are you a PR with a few tips of your own?! Let us know what you think in the comments below…
