I HAD TO LIE TO YOU | A DAD’S PREGNANCY LIVE REACTION

I HAD TO LIE TO YOU | A DAD’S PREGNANCY LIVE REACTION

Today we decided to tell a few close family members that we’re pregnant. It’s much earlier than we wanted but there’s a couple of reasons why it’s the right move to make.

It’s Wednesday 7th November so we’re currently 6 weeks and 1 day pregnant. The usual thing is to wait until the 12 week scan before sharing your secret with the world, but we’ve gone early. Well, we’ve not quite shared it with the world, but have told a hand full of family members.

Donetta is still really ill and despite finally getting a few swags of fluid and the tiniest bit of food down her, she’s still sofa-ridden. As we’re usually out there with our life via social media etc, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep our news a secret, from family in particular. You lot reading this will have accepted she’s ill because that’s all I’ve said so far and no-one has questioned it, sorry for lying! Our family however visit us and we have a few family engagements in the lead up to Christmas, all it’s going to take is Donetta refusing a drink of pink gin for them to click. Donetta is obviously feeling really down now after 8 solid days of throwing up, not being able to eat and generally feeling like absolute shit. Those early pregnancy emotions are kicking in and she wants some additional support to that I can give her. Naturally that means Angela, her mum.

We decided that Donetta telling her mum was a good move as she’d be able to offer a woman’s perspective with a mothers touch and anything to help Donetta right now I’m more than happy to go with. As we were telling Donetta’s mum, adding to the other reasons already mentioned, we decided I’d tell my parents and sisters too. They can all then be in the picture to offer congratulations as well as any support we may need over the coming weeks especially.

DADS PREGNANCY JOURNEY

The doctors did mention the next step should this medicine not kick in, would be for Donetta to go into hospital to have a drip! That’s fucking scary! The main reason really for wanting to get our close family involved, is that we may have to call on them at some point for child care etc and I wouldn’t want to give them the news during a bad and difficult moment rushing Donetta to hospital.

We’ve broken the news to the relevant people and everyone is both excited and concerned. I’d hope more excited though as we are very excited, just going through a difficult start. I don’t want to think that this first week has somehow taken an edge off the excitement, but in truth I think it has. These are the cards we’ve been dealt and I’m sure it’s going to work out over the next few weeks.

The best bit about today was telling the girls! They were really excited, they can’t wait already. We’ve decided that they needed to be in this close circle of people first told because they’re the closest and most important people to us. We’re not going to tell Corben though, for two reasons mainly. The first being that he’s only 6 and can’t be expected to keep a secret and secondly, again he’s only 6 and I’m not sure I could find the words to explain to him should any complications arise during this early stage. The girls are 13 and 14 now and can understand that some pregnancies have complications.

Once we’re confident we’re past this initial bit he will be the first to know before we then break the news to everyone else.

It feels good to have others know, not so good due to the reasons we’ve almost had to tell them, but still good to hear their excitement for us. It’s a big deal for us, especially after me declaring to the world I didn’t want another… Several times! I will explain in a separate post the whole story why I made the ultimate U-turn and Donetta’s reasons for wanting one more!

I’ll keep you updated on all of the ins and outs throughout this PREGNANCY LIVE REACTION series and I really hope things improve very soon so that this current situation is just a bad memory that we managed to get through.
