RESPONDING TO COMMENTS ON YOUR CONTENT | BLOGGERS/VLOGGERS

It amazes me how often I see people asking if they should be replying to comments on their blog posts, videos and/or social media posts. YES! YES YOU SHOULD!

It’s mind-blowing to me that it would even cross your mind whether or not you should IGNORE someone interacting with your content, as that’s exactly what you’d be doing if you didn’t.

I was going to say let’s get the obvious exceptions our of the way first, but I’m no longer sure what’s obvious anymore! If someone is clearly spamming you or being abusive etc, OBVIOUSLY just delete and block, it’s just common sense.

Anyone commenting on your blog post, YouTube video and/or social media posts, directly interacting with your content should 100% receive a response from you.

There are two main reasons for this in my opinion, the first being what I thought was completely obvious, DON’T BE AN IGNORANT BASTARD! Essentially a blog post is you talking to your audience. If you spoke to me face-to-face and I responded, would you then ask your blogging friend whether to talk back to me or not?! The only time your readers shouldn’t expect a response is maybe if every time you create any content you get literally thousands of comments and it would become almost impossible to respond to everyone. But for many of us, we’re not David Beckham or Lady Gaga with literally thousands of comments on everything we do, you’re Susan from Wakefield with 6 comments, RESPOND!

The second reason is that it’s brand savvy. If your audience take time to not only consume but react to your content then you want your brand to be known as someone who cares and responds back. Even further to this every time you receive a comment and you comment back, it’s another interaction/engagement on your content and you should aim to spark a conversation as often as possible to gain even more exposure for your content. If social media platforms see there’s constant conversation happening on your post, they will likely open up your content to more of your followers meaning even more exposure.

I don’t think there’s much else to say about this topic, don’t be a dick and be smart.

Thanks for reading,

David 🙂
