Rip It Up And Start Again!

Rip It Up And Start Again!

‘Get the hoover out’.

Now I’ll be honest, since getting our cordless hoover last year I don’t actually mind hoovering up. Cleaning the hoover out is a different story though, that I don’t like!

The ultimate scenario however throughout our entire house would be to rip all the flooring up and start again.

I’ve no idea how long these carpets have been down for, they’re not that bad, but they’re not what we want either. We want to have wood/laminate flooring throughout the entire house. I always think it looks so much better and it’s much easier to keep clean. Not only that but Corben’s allergist actually suggested if it was possible, having less carpets in the house would actually be better for Corben and his allergies so it’s a two-fold decision really.

The plan is to get the living room, office and Corben’s bedroom done as priorities. I quite like the look of parquet flooringย for the office, adds a little more edge to the design.

Once we’ve chosen the flooring for each room then it’s the big task…

parquet flooring

Yeah, I’m bringing in the old man to help me rip up carpets and fit the new flooring ourselves. My DIY skills are that of an average toddler but my Dad has done this a few times before and is pretty hands-on. I like the idea of the sense of achievement knowing that I will have fitted our own downstairs flooring but I’m dreading the reality of doing it!

Ripping up carpets and laying new flooring is all the easy bit though. The difficult part that I know is coming will be deciding on the colour and design.

I know I’ll get my way when it comes to the office but the living room and Corben’s room I’m not so sure about. Donetta and I have been looking through colours and designs on Direct Wood Flooringย and I’m in two, three, possibly four minds about what I want! I want like a worn white look one minute, then a dark parquet style the next.

Donetta is thinking along the lines of a shabby chic effect or a light grey colour. You can see how long this may take for us to make a decision!

Can you help?

What style and colour would you choose?!

By ‘eck that was a long scroll for the comment box!

I love wooden flooring and the sooner I do our dining room the better. We rent though and the landlord isn’t keen to spend any money on the house. Frankly, I can do the work but I’ll be damned if I’m footing the bill completely! Anyway, oak always looks good.

Ah yeah sorry, it’s the Instagram promo isn’t it! HA :/ Yeah we rent too, its a massive gamble to pay for it all and do the work but we’re as stable as I imagine we can be. I really don’t like the feeling you get when taking on big projects in a rented house but we’re gambling. I’m sure we will be happy with the results, it’ll freshen the entire house up ๐Ÿ™‚

We ripped up a carpet in our hallway and went for a light wood effect lino. We couldn’t afford wooden flooring and went for the cheap alternative of lino. The main problem I find is that the bloody dog hair accumulates more on the lino!

AHHH dog hair. It does my head in. I wouldn’t mind Lino in our kitchen but we have thick solid tiles that look like they’ve been there well before I was born!
