#TheDaddyTag Challenge

Want to know more about me? Have a read as I answer all the questions in #TheDaddyTag Challenge…

I’ve been nominated to complete #TheDaddyTag Challenge by TheFrenchieMummy and I’m very happy to oblige. See the questions along with my answers below. Further down the page you will find all the rules you need to take part 🙂

1 – Are you a Stay at Home Daddy or a Working Daddy?

Erm, both? I always find this question difficult to answer. I know people generally mean do you stay at home and look after the kids most of the time as opposed to travelling to a place of work where someone gives you money. However, looking after the kids and house is work isn’t it? I earn from creating content for my blog and YouTube channel, that’s work isn’t it? So yeah, I’m the primary stay at home parent but Jeremy Kyle is never on the tele and my sofa doesn’t have a permanent dent matching my arse cheeks in it.

2 – Would you have it any other way?

I wouldn’t. Deciding to quit my full time paid job was rather forced upon me as it made more sense with our family dynamics. I definitely didn’t take much forcing however, I jumped at the opportunity and would now never go back. My wife and I are working towards the goal of becoming our own bosses on a permanent basis. This would allow us both plenty of flexibility and in turn benefit our whole family.

3 – Do you co-change dirty nappies? Even the very smelly ones?

Well Corben is almost 4 now so there aren’t any, but from minute 1 I have been 100% a hands on Dad. Every task including in having a baby I have completed and why shouldn’t I? I have no time whatsoever for the whole, this is a mummy job and this is a daddy job, load of crap! Unless you breast feed then there is no reason that every parent shouldn’t split every task right down the middle, 50/50.

4 – A little fairy gives you the possibility of breastfeeding? Are you going for it or do you run away?

We decided not to breast feed. No particular reason, I think there’s arguments for both options that’ll split people forever. If we had decided we were going to breast feed and I could do it too, then sure I would do anything for my children.

5 – What is the one must-have item for a daddy?

I’d say my mobile phone. Sure, baby wipes are something I’ll never not have again, even when the kids have grown up, but my phone…. That moment that you want to treasure forever, get your phone out and take the picture. Ever in an emergency, get your phone out. Stuck somewhere and the kid needs distracting for a while, get your phone out, YouTube and kids apps at the ready. Quick information required, you get the idea.

6 – How many kids do you plan on having?

Luckily for me, when I met Donetta she came as a package with not 1 but 2 little girls. We then added Corben sharpish to complete the family. So 3 and definitely no more! I won’t lie though, had Corben been a girl I would probably have wanted to go again and try for a boy but as luck would have it I got what I wanted first go 😀

7 – Lads’ nights? How often do you have them?

Not as much as I would like! There are 5 of us that have been friends forever. Getting us all free at the same time though is pretty much impossible meaning lads nights are usually only 3 times a year! We always say ‘We should do this once a month’ etc, but 3 of us are married, 2 of us with kids and everyone has work and other commitments too. It’s something I really want to work on, not just with the lads but all family too, life gets busy and before you know it 6 months have passed.

8 – Your children’s favourite achievement?

Happiness. And this will always be the target to achieve. We’ve had SATs results, school reports but none of that matters to me. I always flick to the page that tells me if the kids are nice people and happy. Achievements are measured differently by everyone and for us we measure happiness, that’s all that matters!

9 – What is your best memory with your kid(s)?

The moment Corben was born. I wasn’t around for the girls births obviously but when Corben was born so was I, reborn. My life took a new direction, had purpose and that memory will forever be in my mind.

10 –  Name one thing you miss since being a daddy?

I don’t particularly miss anything. Maybe more alone time with my wife. We used to go out often, play poker together and have a little more freedom. But I’d sacrifice that all over again to be where we are now. We still make time to get our Netflix on in an evening and wouldn’t say no to a few more hours in a day.

11 – Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now? And we mean YOU DADDY, not the mummy!

Yes, yes and yes! Nothing to do with having kids though. I played football all my life up until I was 24. At 24 I suffered my second ligament injury meaning I then had to have ACL surgery on both knees. Career ending injury DOUBLED! It has been since then, I have banged on 3 maybe 4 stone! I keep meaning to do something about it but then someone passes me the Jaffa Cakes :/

12 – Dream holiday with your kids?

For them it would have to be Disney Land, USA. They’d lose their minds in that place. Surely all kids would choose to go there given the option. I know the wife would love a cabin up in Scotland, middle of nowhere but still with all the mod cons available!

13 – Dream holiday without your kids or even without the other half? (You’re allowed to dream)

I’ve missed the boat on a lads holiday and no I don’t really drink alcohol often so a lads holiday doesn’t appeal. A holiday with Donetta though sounds amazing! If we could go anywhere just the two of us I’d say Las Vegas!!! We love a bit of sensible gambling, plus it just looks amazing. The lights never go out and if you have a week without kids and want a good blow out then where better?

14 – How has your life changed since having kids?

Massively! I now have a purpose. Pre-kids I was getting by, wondering my way through life with no real goal in mind. Now I know exactly what I want and how I want to do it. I want to raise good people, confident, positive, driven people who know no limits. Since having kids I have realised everything I thought was important really doesn’t matter. I now want to do things that make me happy and my family happy. Oh and I wash a lot more pots than I did before.

15 – Finish the sentence “It makes my heart melt when…”

…watching my boy play football. It’s like a time warp and I’ve gone back in time to myself as a child. Beautiful moments.

16 – Favourite beers brands and football team?

I don’t drink often but my preferred choice would be Kopparberg. If I had to drink lager to look like a real man, it would be Carling. Brands, not sure. Now we’re buying the boy football gear I’d say Nike and Adidas, you generally get what you pay for. Clothes wise, we shop at Primark mostly, there’s 5 of us to clothe! I was born an Evertonian so Everton are the only team for me. Hopefully my boy will continue this too 🙂

17 – Huggies or Pampers?

PAMPERS PAMPERS PAMPERS, unless Huggies see this and want to work with me?! Pampers baby wipes are the only wipes worth having in my opinion. Huggies just aren’t as good and Johnsons, don’t get me started!

18 – Have you always wanted kids?

No. I was convinced I wouldn’t ever get married or have kids. I was always just fine on my own. I don’t mind my own company and always had plenty to do. Then I met Donetta and from minute one I knew I’d marry her and within months Corben was on his way and I realised just how wrong I was. I was born to be a Dad.

19 – Best part of being a dad?

I am literally building a person. You tell me, what’s better than that?

That’s my #TheDaddyTag completed. See details below for you to join in!
