Today Corben and I went to the cinema. Corben hasn’t been to the cinema before so I wasn’t sure how he’d be.
It was a Tuesday dinner time in term time, so I knew it wouldn’t be too busy. I’m not quite sure how he’s reached 5 and hasn’t already been to the cinema before. I know in the first couple of years he was really sensitive to load noises so that’s partly the reason. I asked the guy for two tickets to Thor Ragnarak and he responded £17, that’ll be the other part of the reason!
After walking into the wrong screen and swiftly making our exit, we finally got settled in our seats in the correct screen. There were only about 10 people in our screening including us two. I was hoping that would be the case as I was expecting Corben to talk my ear off throughout the film and with less people I could find some ‘less distracting for other people’ seats.
It turns out he was golden. Throughout the 30 minute long adverts and trailers he was saying what everyone else was thinking ‘When will the film finally be on?’ – after most adverts.
About 15 minutes in we were sat, eyes glued to the big screen, leaning on each other and holding hands.
My mind quickly cast back through 20 years of cinema memories when this moment hit me and it was beautiful.
It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since going to the cinema with a girl and hoping to hold hands was the biggest deal ever. Now I’m 31, married with 3 kids sat in the cinema all loved up holding hands with the apple of my eye.
Moments like these are so powerful. When I was a kid I’d dream about being a professional footballer, having a big house and a flashy car, yet in this moment, sat just me and my lad watching a Marvel superhero film hand in hand I couldn’t feel any luckier if I had any of those things.
I’m living my dream, I just didn’t know this was what I wanted until I had it.
Oh yeah, the film. It was great! It was like Avengers meets Guardians of the Galaxy, very comical and had a Hulk.
I’d love to hear about your treasured moments in the comments below…
